Atlantic Bay Hotel Newquay Wedding | Dani & Ben

28th October, 2012
I love my job! We get to meet the best people, go to the loveliest places and capture some awesome images. Yesterdays wedding was at The Atlantic Hotel in Newquay, with really lovely families and possibly the unluckiest lovely couple ever!

Poor Danielle and Ben's doomed run up to their wedding started with booking The Falmouth Beach Hotel for their wedding venue. Yes, the one that burned down. Then Dani's seamstress wrecked the bridesmaids dresses, so Dani had to buy new ones last minute. She also bodged Dani's dress and Dani' was forced to fined a new seamstress to try and fix what the first one had mauled. Their bestman dropped out 5 weeks prior to the wedding leaving poor Ben without a stag do. And finally the high icy winds blew over one of my lights and broke one of my flashes and a trigger too. But if a couple can overcome such adversity and have such an awesome day, you know they are going to have a long and happy life together!

We took the boys down to Little Fistral for a photo shoot at the start of the day to get some relaxed photos to get the boys in a playful mood for the rest of the day.

It took a bit of provoking but the boys slipped nicely into the spirit.

Then back to The Atlantic Hotel to catch up with the girls getting ready. Danielle chose gold and a shimmering purple for her colours for the day, and had sisters Stephanie & Stacey dress in gold in the daytime and purple in the evening. And Dani's daughter very nearly upstaged Dani in the cutest bridesmaid dress finished with a gold bow.

As the time was getting closer to the wedding ceremony we popped out and got a few shots on the stairwell before heading down to the ceremony.

Then we headed off to the imposing ball room for the ceremony itself.

It was a beautiful and playful ceremony and although it was a beautiful sunny day it was really windy and cold, so we were grateful that the hotel let the guests fire off celebration pyrotechnics as Danielle and Ben came down the aisle.

We had concerns about what the light would be like after the wedding breakfast, so after all of the group photos out on the terrace in the pavilion Tams and I took Danielle and Ben back down to Little Fistral beach, and I have to say Dani may well have just won the title as most hardcore bride for running in the sea "Before" the wedding breakfast!

Danielle and Ben wanted us to join them for their beautiful wedding breakfast which we were very grateful for. And it was a nice opportunity to find out a bit more about Ben as we were sat on a table with one of his uncles and family. Then after some emotional speeches we headed off out again with just Danielle and Ben, starting with catching the last of the sunset by the cross just outside of the hotel before going down the hill and getting some funky shots in front of a graffiti wall.

Before taking them down to the harbour for a few more playful shots.

It was here that one of my flashes and receiver came a cropper. I thought we were out of the wind here until we caught a freak guest. But forever the professional we cracked on and got a few shots on the beach.

And one last shot in front of the lifeboat before heading back to the hotel.

With time for one last staged shot in the lobby of the hotel before cracking on with the rest of the evening.

The ballroom of The Atlantic is a vast room and with the number of guest that Danielle and Ben had (around 130) for the evening I did wonder how they'd create the atmosphere for the evening, but Danielle was one jump ahead of me and had already thought of that and had arranged for a cabaret drag artist to come down from London, and I have to say it was an inspired decision and really rounded the day off perfectly.

Dearest Danielle Ben and families, thank you sooo much for a really fun special day. Tamsyn and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and we would like to wish Danielle and Ben the very best of love and luck for your future lives together!
